Why your washing machine won’t spin
Soaking clothes after a full cycle usually comes down to balance, drainage or drive parts.
Most modern washers refuse to spin for a good reason. They sense something is off and protect themselves. Here is what is usually behind it.
The load is out of balance
One heavy item such as a doona or a bath mat can throw the drum off balance. Spread the load, add a towel or two, and run a spin-only program.
The water has not drained
A machine won’t spin with water in the drum. Clean the pump filter, and be ready with a tray and towels, because water will come out when you open it.
The lid or door is not sensed
If the lock or lid switch fails, the machine may not know the door is shut. Clicking without starting is one sign.
The drive has failed
Worn belts, motor brushes and motor control faults can all stop the spin. These need testing with the machine open.
When to call
If a rebalanced load and a clean filter don’t help, book a visit and send the model number and any error code.
