Common washing machine faults
- Not draining
- Blocked pump filters, kinked hoses and failed drain pumps are the usual causes.
- Not spinning
- An unbalanced load, a drainage fault, a worn belt or a motor problem can each stop the spin.
- Leaking
- Door seals, hoses, the detergent drawer and the pump are the first places to look.
- Loud banging or grinding
- Worn bearings, failed suspension or a coin in the pump all make their own distinct noise.
- Door won’t open or lock
- Door locks and latches wear out, and some machines hold the door shut if water is still inside.
- Stops mid-cycle
- Water supply, drainage, sensors and control boards can all pause a program.
Try these first
Turn the machine off at the wall before you start. These checks could save you a call-out.
- Clean the pump filter, usually behind a small panel at the bottom front
- Rebalance the load and try a spin-only program
- Check both taps are on and the inlet hoses are not kinked
- Check the machine stands level with all feet on the floor
Front loaders, top loaders and stacked pairs
We work on front and top loaders. If your washer has a dryer stacked on top, or sits in a cupboard, tell us when you book. Stacked machines can need extra room and sometimes a second person to separate them safely.

Why won’t my washing machine spin?
Often the load is out of balance or the machine has not drained fully. If it still won’t spin, the belt, motor or a control fault may need testing.
What is the banging during the spin cycle?
Check the load and the feet first. If it continues, the suspension or bearings are likely to need attention.
Do you repair stacked washers and dryers?
Yes, where there is safe access. Let us know when you book so we can plan for it.
